Collection: LINKA PALENEWEN

Linkan Palenewen was born in 1989, a Jakartan native who explores through her art the convergence of Indonesian culture through a contemporary lens. Having studied fashion design, she gained an in depth knowledge of colour, pattern and figure.

Relocating to Bali over a decade ago Palenewen embarked on her professional artistic journey in early 2016; Her first group show at Joshua District. Palenewen’s body of work reflects her contemplations on social dynamics and femininity. In a humble but assertive way, Palenewen has spent the last four years creating nude self-portraits. With conservative upbringing, her decision to portray self imagery in such a vulnerable manner created a scene on the cultural brink of social values to which Palenewen challenges.

While nudity and self-portraiture are focal points, Palenewen’s artistic exploration extends beyond these boundaries. Her work examines the fundamentals of human behavior, in both everyday interactions and on a broader societal milieu.
